The music of plants, transmitted by Band of Weeds (Kalle Hamm, Lauri Ainala, Hermanni Keko, Olli Aarni) in a plant based live concert at the Stavanger Art Museum, 2019. The Greenhouse Phenomenon is a sound inquiry into the pulses and life signals of recent introductions growing around the Lake Mosvatnet, Stavanger, Norway. Several species have been introduced and are growing in Stavanger, for example the giant knotweed (Fallopia sachalinensis), the giant meadowsweet (Filipendula kamtschatica) and the salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis). Band of Weeds was commissioned to have a live concert in the Screen City Biennial 2019, Ecologies – Lost, Found and Continued, which took place in the Stavanger Art Museum 18.10.2019. Band of Weeds used the electric plant signal taken directly from the species mentioned above creating their own interpretation of the hidden and also very often unwanted life of recent introductions in Stavanger.

Band of Weeds was founded as a conceptual band in 2015. Current members of the band are Olli Aarni, Lauri Ainala, Kalle Hamm, Hermanni Keko and the featured plants, depending on the project. All the sound material is recorded from the plants using the method developed by the Soviet botanist Ivan Gunar. Ionised liquid is run through the plant tissues and the changes in their electro-magnetic field can then be converted to the sound range audible to the human ear.
